My Top 5 Favourite Things Right Now

I’ve always thought about doing a newsletter, but to be honest I’m not sure I’d find the time or the readers for it. I really like the informal style of newsletters – like sharing the favourite things you’ve been reading or listening to lately, and just how quick and bitesize they can be. Then I thought, why not just do it in a blog format.

So whilst this isn’t exactly a newsletter, I thought I could easily get more creative on the blog. With that in mind, here’s a quick fire of some things I’ve been loving consuming lately.

TV Shows

The Politician

As always, I love a Netflix bingeworthy show and The Politician doesn’t disappoint. It’s set in America, where high school student Payton is adamant he’ll one day become president. It’s quirky yet has some quick-witted humour throughout. I love Ben Platt, who plays Hayton, his voice is amazing and he’s such a great actor in this. The programme is full of highs and lows, and to be honest some pretty dramatic moments which adds to the quirky humour.

Another Netflix number, but I binged this in like two days? Genuinely cannot believe how intense and brilliant acted this was. Without giving too much away, it starts with a young girl who has just been raped, but the police start to find gaps in her story and, as the title suggests, don’t believe she’s telling the truth. It’s based on a true story which makes it all the more heartbreaking. It’s a tough watch to start with, but if you can get through the first episode it’s totally worth a watch. I maybe didn’t ‘love’ this, but it was so well filmed and told the story brilliantly.

After posting on twitter that I was really struggling to find the time to listen to podcasts, I decided to make the time for them more. One of my friends recently recommend Things You Can’t Ask Yer Mum, and I absolutely love it. It’s around 30 minutes per episode, which means it works perfectly for my commute to and from work. If you love general girl talk that doesn’t shy away from the juicy deets, then it’ll be your new favourite podcast. Lizzy and Lindsay are so funny, and genuinely just come across like they’re your best friends giving you all the advice you’ve ever needed.

I’ve also been enjoying listening to a few others as well, including Talking Tastebuds and Table Manners.

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

So I was a bit late to join the party on this one, but I finally managed to get round to reading this book. I’m always a bit worried about books that have a lot of hype around them, but The Seven Deaths is one that’s been hyped for good reason.

I’m sure you’ll all know the story of this one, but in a nutshell it’s all about a man who has to relive the same day 7 times as a different person to solve the murder of Evelyn. It was such a gripping read and full of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I consumed this book so quickly, and I love when you find a book that you’re excited to rush home and read (or is it just me who’s that sad?). I’ve been really trying to get to my 21 book challenge this year, and so far I’ve found some great reads. But if you have any suggestions please let me know – I’ve still got about 4 books left to read this year (welp!).

Unless you’ve been under a rock, then I’m sure you’ll have heard the new Coldplay music. I used to hate Coldplay growing up, but their last few albums have really turned me. Their recent releases have got me hooked! I genuinely have had Orphans on repeat I don’t even know how many times. It’s one of those songs I could listen to on repeat constantly and not get tired of.

I’m hoping with this new album looming, that there might be a tour. I turned down the opportunity to see them at T in the Park once, and to be honest I couldn’t even tell you who I went to see instead. So the chance to see them live would be a dream – I’m thinking they might be at Glastonbury (not that I even have tickets).

& there you have it for this mini round up of some my favourite things. Let me know your favourite things in the comments! x
